Karonga North-West UTM and PP members defect  to UDF to support Atupele-Mwenifumbo presidential ticket

As the May 21 tripartite elections’ clock is fast ticking, political drama is unfolding almost daily as about 46 UTM Party, Peoples Party (PP)  and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)  members from Karonga North-West constituency have defected to United Democratic Front (UDF) in a bid to support the  Atupele Muluzi and Frabk Tumpale Mwenifumbo presidential ticket in the May 21 2019 Tripartite Elections.

Dan Msowoya: Unity of purpose

Making the announcement Sunday evening at Safali Annex Lodge, an executive member of UTM party, Peter Manda said they decided to support Atupele of  UDF as he is the only leader who has demonstrated political maturity by roping in Mwenifumbo as his running mate.

Manda further said the appointment of Mwenifumbo as Atupele’s running has shown that UDF does recognize the role the northern region can play in the country’ss political scene let alone the May 21 elections.

“We have reached this decision after thoughtfully looking into the gamble and sacrifice that Muluzi has made. We want to add value to that by garnering massive support to UDF and its leadership so that come May 21 Muluzi goes to State House,”Manda said.

Another shocking defection to UDF was that of deputy Peoples Party (PP) Samson Mwamsamale who said the idea to dump PP for UDF is based on the fact that Muluzi has appointed Mwenifumbo who is a true son of the northern region, saying the pair is a good regional combination for the modern politics.

Speaking on behalf of UDF, the party’ss national executive committee (NEC) member Elizabeth Zimba who welcomed the defectors to UDF, hailed them for the wise decision made, saying it is timely and will boost the party’s  elections bid.

“As a party we are glad that we have welcomed these members from two big parties on the land. These people will add political value to the UDF family and we will make sure that we consolidate their experience and utilize it to the best of our knowledge,”Zimba said.

Alliance for Democrcay (Aford)  chairperson of elections and campaign committee, Dan Msowoya said his party and UDF will work extra hard to make sure that they woo support from the grassroots and preach peace for the sake of Malawians.

“It is quite pleasing to note that the AFORD-UDF partnership is now catching many a peoples’ eyes. We are glad because what Muluzi has shown the nation is political maturity and that in UDF there is no politics of tribalism and nepotism.

“The combination of north-south presidential bid has brought in one unity factor that has been lacking for a long time, therefore, we will engage an extra gear to make sure that we win the forth coming general elections,” Msowoya said.

It is shocking to see people in Karonga, and northern region in general being very vulnerable to manipulation. They are always used to support idiots simply on the basis that one of their own has been co-opted into some leadership clap. Please dont let the people down. Muluzi senior was the architect of corruption, degradation of the rule of law, and decay of the education system in Malawi. UDF cant take enough votes in the north,. AFORD is a dead party, who would really vote for these opportunists?

What do you really expect Atupele and Tumpale to do for the northern, these two are rolling stones just like those of you who have joined them ?
Do you really expect Mwenifumbo to change things in the northern region, these two guys are crooks and very soon you will see them joining DPP , it will be a big explosion which is to happen in their big drama group which they just formed .

What a shame and very sad to be mayopic. This only benefits UDF. Mark my word wait and see. You have Bakiri behind all this. It is all about personal enrichment. Oh this is sad for people in the North, who claim to be educated and yet cannot descern the purpdse of this. Its time that the north lead against tribalism. I would rather be in the desert with God than be in a partnership without God. I remember clearily when when malawians shouted for Bakiri to be president. “Bakuba yomweyo.” What became of Malawi, caro ca banthu ba nkhungu.… Read more »
