Kazembe body back in Malawi, burial Friday in Chiradzulu
The body of the former Minister of Education, Eunice Kazembe, who was now the Minister in the Office of President and Cabinet responsible for Good Governance, has been flown back Malawi, where it was met by a military honour guard at Chileka International Airport.
Kazembe, 61, passed away in South Africa on Monday. According to Anderson Kulugomba, spokesman of the family, late Kazembe passed on after a long battle with cancer.
“She went for cancer treatment in the Republic South Africa (RSA) and that included some chemotherapy,” said Kulugomba adding that while in South Africa she on two occasions switched hospitals.
Her casket drapped in Malawi flag was taken to her residence at Chigumula in Blantyre upon arrival from the airport where President Joyce Banda later visited the mourning family.
Meanwhile, the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has disclosed that late Kazembe be taken to her final resting place at Maone Village, T/A Nkalo, in Chiradzulu District on Thursday, 31 October, 2013.
“The body of the Late Eunice Kazembe will be laid to rest on Friday, 1 November, 2013. The burial ceremony will start from 11:00 a.m,” OPC said in a statement.
Until her death, Kazembe was Minister and Member of Parliament for Chiradzulu South Constituency.
She has served in various Ministrial posts between 2004 and 2013.
Survived by husband and three children late Kazembe was also co-founder of Chisomo Children’s Club.
