Mwadiwa ousted as Malawi secretary to treasury: Enters Kumwembe
The newly appointed Finance minister Dr. Maxwell Mkwezalamba will have to work with new secretary to treasury Newby Kumwembe who has been appointed by President Joyce Banda as Principal Secretary for Finance replacing career bureaucrat Randson Mwadiwa.
When asked to confirm the movements, Office of the President and Cabinet spokesperson Arthur Chipenda said: “There are a number of PSs that are being moved around, just to strengthen the Civil Service.”
Asked if one of those moved was Mwadiwa he said: “It could be, I haven’t seen the list yet. I am out of office and outside Lilongwe.”
Nyasa Times source said Kumwembe has taken over at treasury.
“Mwadiwa got communication a few hours ago that he packs up and head to the Ministry of Trade and Industry in the same capacity,” the source said on Wedensday.
Mwadiwa, a career bureaucrat was appointed as PS for the Ministry of Finance on 10th April, 2012 by President Joyce Banda, five days after the demise of late President Bingu Wa Mutharika.
He is a man with vast knowledge in the field of economics and finance. On the other hand, Kumwembe is a former diplomat and a trade expert.
