KB punish Chitipa United: Malawi TNM Super League

TNM Super League debutants, Chitipa United, were once again punished by champions Kamuzu Barracks on Saturday at Mzuzu Stadium when they went down 1-2.

KB celebrate

KB settled very quickly into the game and they were fast on the ball as they made forward moves towards Chitipa United goal.

Just 8 minutes into the game, Francisco Kamdzeka won the ball inside United’s half and skillfully directed his shot on target, beating goalkeeper Lloyd Munthali in the line of duty for the soldiers to lead 1 nil.

United replied in the 26th minute when Wacheta Mwenefumbo forced a through ball behind the visitors’ defence and Abel Mwakilama was on time to unleash a volley into the roof of the net on KB’s goal. 1-1 it was.

But six minutes before recess, the soldiers mercilessly invaded Chitipa United territory and Chimwemwe Chisambi managed to squeeze the ball past United’s goalie for them to lead 2-1.

United would level the scores in the 76th minute when substitute Maclean Mwamlima’s cross from the left found Abel Mwakilama in the box but his scissors kick was parried out for a corner.

After 90 minutes, it was Chitipa United 1, and Kamuzu Barracks 2.

Speaking after the game, assistant coach for Chitipa United, Robert Mziza, said it was a good game only that his side had problems at the back due to injuries that forced some defenders out of the game.

Taking his turn, assistant coach for KB, Ted Kalinda, said it was a tough game as Chitipa United were playing good football.

“It’s good that we have collected 3 points today. We hope to do well again against Mzuni,” added Kalinda.
