Khumbo denies using K400m Covid-19 fund for his hospital bills: ‘MASM paid’

Former Vice President Khumbo Kachali on Monday refuted allegation that the Tonse alliance government paid his hospital bills in South Africa using Covid-19 funds.

Over the weekend, some Malawians on social media alleged that President Lazarus Chakwera released K400 million from Covid-19 funds to settle Kachali’s hospital bills.

However, Kachali, who is also the president of Freedom Party [FP], one of the political parties in Tonse alliance, described the reports as fake news.

Speaking in a telephone interview, PF publicity secretary Verson Ngulube told Nyasa Times that the said K400 million was paid by Medical Aid Society of Malawi (MASM).

According to him, no any government money was used to pay Kachali’s hospital bills.

“That’s a total lie. The K400 million was from MASM. Those spreading the news they just want to destroy Kachali and Chakwera’s image to the public,” he said.

While not saying the  type of the disease the former vice president is suffering from, Ngulube said Kachali is almost fine now and he will be back any time.

MWK400 Mill can built a clinic Masm can make money out of or better still standalone pharmacies that can generate incomes for them. Free advice, tell Mr Kachale (Khumbo) to make an effort to shade some kilos, it is unhealthy to assume swallowing pills will finally bring an improvement to his health. His weight could be an aggravating factor to his constant hospital visitations

It’s really khumbo too much big but the fact still remain this people are sharing the public funds through this way why the government can’t build high profile hospital with high qualified doctors so that other countries should send their presidents and Minister’s here so that we don’t spend too much money and we generate funds the hospital as well

But this ex Vice President is provided free Health Care in South Africa and is provided with free charter plane to South Africa. If Health care is good enough for a Malawian why is it Not good enough for an Ex Vice President.   22. The amount seems suspect. ACB has to snoop this case. MASM can not possibly foot that bill. What would be the client’s yearly contribution? MASM can clear it’s image and not allow everybody to use it as a scapegoat. Come on MASM!!!

    1. And yet the same MASM is failing to cover patient with dental problem. You have to pay 50% from your pocket. And the amount involved is like 200,000.00 and not Even anywhere near half million. Shame to our poor system where politicians are easily able to siphon.

  26. Tonse alliance health bills are rising at alarming rate. Msungama now khumbo kachali all sucking tax payers money. 400,000 euros is alot of money even for masm it does not make business sense. Only government can pay such sums without thinking twice because government is full of useless heads

  38. Can khumbo disclose what MASM scheme he is on?
    I also want to go onto the same scheme that allows 400m for medical bills.
    Some of us get rejected from hospitals and pharmacies when our monthly limits are reached. I wonder what khumbo monthly limit is.
    MASM can you respond to this? If not, please educate us as i would also like to join the same MASM scheme khumbo is on.
