Malawi’s political movement Transformation Alliance (T.A) has downplayed the recent move by its former Spokesperson Leonard Chimbanga in joining the rulling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Chimbanga who resigned from T.A few days after the grouping held its first ever national conference said the reasons of him resigning were personal and that he wanted to pursue further studies.
Surprisingly, Chimbanga was publicly welcomed into the rulling party by DPP gurus on Sunday 17th September 2017 at a rally in Ndirande Township.
Chimbanga said his intention is to help DPP win again in the next Presidential General Elections scheduled for May 20th, 2019.
But in an interview with Nyasa Times, T.A Chairperson Moses Kunkuyu said his group is not bitter with Chimbanga’s move and he
wished him well.
“We wish Chimbanga well. We believe he is home now and its always good to be home,” said Kunkuyu.
He went on to react on remarks made by DPP Secretary General Grizzedar Jeffrey famously called ‘Jeffrey wa Jeffrey’ in calling T.A a
“We pledge to Honourable Jeffrey and DPP that TA will continue grooming young politicians who can eventually be spotted by the so called big parties that unfortunately do not have any regard for creating a nursery for future politicians” said Kunkuyu a former
Minister of Information and first cabinet minister to be appointed by former President Dr. Joyce Banda in her cabinet in 2012.
“Unfortunately their focus is on the forthcoming elections while our
focus is on the generation to come” he added.
The T.A Chairman further expressed optimism for a tansformed DPP with the presence of youthful Chimbanga.
“The party will use the young man to heal their myopia and look beyond 2019 than give him ‘a fatal baptizm” he said.
Chimbanga was once a United Democratic Front (UDF) member and contested as Member of Parliament for Dedza East Constituency during 2014 general elections but he did not succeed.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
