The Kufewa Scholarships will be managed by The Maestros Leadership Team and presented by Kuwala Creatives.

The launch of the fund will be done during the ‘Let’s Do It’ colleges tour starting on 23rd March, 2018 in the capital city.

The fund is a result the overwhelming response the Creative has been getting with its Kufewa Acrobatics “movie of the year 2017; ‘Town Monger’ as per Critical Hit Magazine.

Kufewa Manager, Denis Imaan says “Our movie, The Town Monger is about taking those who are out but deserve to be in school, back to schools. In the movie it was a case of street kids but the situation here is different, the challenge is school fees. We therefore found it important to assist”.

Imaan says they know what it feels like not to be able to go to school because you are in lack adding it is now time for them to support where they can.

“We will host several shows and a percentage of the proceeds will towards our scholarship fund. Our tour targets students and young people who are not very clear about their future and would like to be challenged in all aspects”.

“We want to challenge them that hard work pays, talent is a huge resource and failure to achieve something is not the end and at the end of the day to give them a message that we all can support our communities despite what we face. We are starting by supporting students who lack school fees”.

Venues announced are Malawi Assemblies of God University, College of Medicine (LL Campus) Luanar, Chancellor College, Mzuzu University, Catholic University, Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the Poly among others.

The movie/performance will be part of a line up of events happening while some venues will have a dedicated event for movie, a conversation and a performance by the Kufewa Acrobatics.

The manager says they may decide to bring in an inspirational figure, supporting music artists or poets or any other acts they see fit.

“We are in talks with some big name artist to be part of this” says Imaan.

Kufewa is an acrobatics group, that enjoys a wider audience across the globe. Their performances attract the attention of both the old and the young.

Apart from their performances, their second film, The Town Monger has made them a darling of everyone who comes across their film. The movie was shot and produced on a budget in Malawi’s Lilongwe Township by this group of seasoned street acrobats.

This Kung Fu film addresses issues of street kids and crime, education and community development through martial arts. It has so far been touted as “the best action movie of the year 2017” by Critical Hit Magazine.

The video clips of the movie ‘broke the internet’ and generated more online views, reviews and shares than any other Malawi internet content that has ever been produced and went beyond 17 million shares and views on social media and video streaming platforms in under a month.

Having had an incredible global response including entertainment television broadcasts of the video clips on channels like SBC 3 in South Africa, coverage by Voice of America, Critical Hit, Zambian Observer just to mention a few, Kufewa group through its management Determination PR has been approached by several film makers and television companies from around the world to work with them on their next projects.

The crew is in preparation for an international tour which starts this March with Lesotho on March 2nd and South Africa after that, then Botswana and Zambia.
