Kwacha! MCP slogan rock Parliament with Phoya guests

Malawi Parliament on Wednesday briefly turned into a political arena when Malawi Congress Party (MCP) legislators started singing in acknowledgment of 40 chiefs and constituency committee members from Blantyre Rural East, The Nation reported.

The paper reported that former Minister of Justice, Henry Duncan Phoya (HDP), who is Blantyre Rural East MP (now MCP), brought to the house the forty-plus member from his constituency.

When Second Deputy Speaker, Juliana Mphande, was making the announcement of the visiting entourage from Phoya’s constituency, the daily reported that the excited opposition benches stood up, waving and clapping amid chants of the MCP political slogan of ‘Kwacha!’”

It was reported that the MCP legislators erupted into chants to its trademark; “suja mumanama Congress inatha [Were you not lying that Congress is dead and buried?]”

Some MCP MPs were seen breaking into dance, it was reported.

Phoya, it was reported, took his guests to MCP president and Leader of Opposition, John Tembo’s office before conducting them on a tour of the new Parliament Building..

HDP recently joined MCP ranks and he is the powerful political figure head of the party in the populous southern region and also billed as leadership material.

Phoya has however demonstrated that he is a team player since joining MCP as he is not advancing personal agenda but working as team to rejuvenate the once mighty MCP.
