Lack of composure on goal worries Karonga United coach

Northern Region based super league side Karonga United have attributed their barren spell in front of goal to lack of self-confidence and maturity among the players.

The Crocodiles of Karonga have only found the net once in their eight outings so far in the league, the lowest in Malawi’s four major league divisions.

Coach Kondwani Mwalweni said lack of enough preparation on matches has affected coordination among the players, hence lack of self-belief in front of goal.

“It’s my responsibility as a coach to bring self-confidence and belief, knowing that it’s vital when playing football and I’m doing that through extra training and shooting practices,” he said.

Mwalweni said with the extra training he organizes for the players, he will be working on the midfield and striking force, saying these are the key areas in the field.

The Crocodile’s coach bemoaned the creation of several chances by his boys, saying the chances, however, always just end up being fluffed, which he described as the biggest challenge for his team.

But he sounded confident that his players have what it takes to survive in the country’s major league.

According to a soccer pundit, David Katete, Karonga United have good players.

He advised the fans to be patient because ‘good results’ are around the corner for the young boys.

“I know people in Karonga are not patient enough but with this young team, they have to be. It’s only a matter of time before the players click together and when they do, they will shock big teams,” he said.

Karonga United are at the bottom of a sixteen-member league with only three points from their eight matches played so far.

This coming Sunday, the Crocodiles of Karonga will welcome champions Nyasa Big Bullets at Mzuzu Stadium.
