Law scholar Madise, experts quash Bushiri criticism of PSB Network

University of Malawi law lecture Sunduzwayo Madise – currently pursing further studies in England –  and aself-styled Senior Counsel (SC) who is known in the social media spheres as Negracious SC have thrown a decisive whip at critics of the multi-billionnaire prophet Shepherd Bushiri   launch of  new mobile virtualnetwork operator, PSB Network.

Major 1 disclosed that PSB Network has began as MVNO hooked to Cell C. He was even unapologetic to declare that PSB Network is here to overtake the market.
Major 1 disclosed that PSB Network has began as MVNO hooked to Cell C. He was even unapologetic to declare that PSB Network is here to overtake the market.

Ridding on the wave of misinformation, tabloids dedicated to soiling the legacy of the prophet claimed that Cell C, a Mobile Network Operator (MNO) which is also operating in South Africa, had “come in an open to humiliate Bushiri saying he is lying of having launched a telecommunication business in South Africa”.

But experts have explained that a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) is a wireless communications services provider that does not own the wireless network infrastructure over which the MVNO provides services to its customers. It uses the mobile network infrastructure provided by a mobile network operator like Cell C, but offers its own products and services, including billing support systems and marketing.

This entails that an MVNO enters into a business agreement with a Mobile Network Operator (MNO) like the said Cell C, to obtain bulk access to network services at wholesale rates, then sets retail prices independently.

Commenting in defence of Bushiri, legal scholar Madise wrote on Facebook: “I personally do not know this young man, Bushiri, but I have definitely read and heard a lot about him. What he has achieved is unprecedented and confounding but one has to pause and hold him in awe in the same breath. “

Madise criticised an article on Malawi Independent blog associated with State House  attacking Bushiri, saying it “ illustrates a lack of understanding of the mobile telephony business.”

Wrote Madise: “ As a person who has expert knowledge in the subject, I can say for a fact that Bushiri owns the mobile company which he inaugurated. Actually, if you read the article, it does not say Bushiri has not opened a mobile company. In fact, it admits that he has but uses the cell C infrastructure. The technical term is called “Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO)” as opposed to Mobile Network Operator (MNO).

“But one would be hard-pressed to argue that both are not Mobile Operators. One rides on the rails of the other; usually using excess capacity and offering innovating services. That is what entrepreneurship is all about. This is common. Sir Richard Branston owns a mobile company: Virgin Mobile. But he uses the infrastructure of others in the countries he operates in, including the UK and South Africa. He does not own the transmission backbone of the network. Does that mean Sir Richard Branston doesn’t own the company?”

Commenting on Madise’s post, journalist-cum cartoonist Deguzman Adzigude Kaminjolo  wrote: “You get to wonder really, why agents of this government are so desperate to discredit Bushiri.

Cell C, Vodacom and others carry traffic of other operators. If you are on Airtel, and in South Africa, you will be using your Airtel number on Cell C infrastructure”

And Stocker Mpherembe Lungu  argued: “Uber taxi does not own a single car,but they making money all over the world.”

Nicely Msowoya posted: “ This Malawi Independent is always fighting Bushiri.”

During the launch of PSM, Shepherd Bushiri’s mentor,  Prophet Uebert Angel, pleaded with Malawi government to start embracing its own people despite political or social differences if the country is to develop.

Angel, who is also a businessman based in the United Kingdom, noted that the supposedly continued frustrations that Bushiri is facing in the country is a missed opportunity, as a number of business investments which could have been established in Malawi might be taken elsewhere.

“In a country well managed, poverty is something to be ashamed of but in a country badly managed, riches are something to be ashamed of, so you need to understand that the only place you find a rich man being opposed is when a country is badly managed. A country is not strong as its president; a country is strong as its inhabitants.

Angel observed that Bushiri has become a first individual black man to own a mobile network in South Africa and that Malawians need to be proud of the achievements of fellow citizens who are contributing to the economic development of the nation.

Said Angel,” Lets embrace our own because when we do that, he is able to use his finances to help his country Malawi and other countries as well and that what makes Malawi great. The newspapers in South Africa will write that Malawian born has done this but in Malawi you will find that some people will be marking the same.”

PSB Network is coming fully-fledged with SIM cards bearing its brand.

During the auspicious PSB Network launch, Bushiri disclosed that PSB Network has its operation centre in Durban in South Africa.

PSB Network is currently celebrated as a new business line which has been set in motion joining a network of investments such as mining, air transport, financial consultancy, among others, falling under PSBInvestiments.

As announced by Prophet Bushiri, during the PSB Network launch which succeeded another launch of a mining project in Zambia, PSB International University is set to be launched.

The timing of the new business is somewhat a missed opportunity…Nashua closed its mobile business early this year, Virgin Mobile is non existence after massive marketing drive. Telkom Mobile Business was the late entry in the game and with massive cash injection in to this venture is 2010, it is struggling. There has been no marketing or noise about this new network operator. In some circles, it is believed to be close network for church members and not geared to a wider audience. It will be interesting to read their ARPU (Average Revenue Per Unit) after 6 – 8 months.… Read more »

What has the Government got to do with the debate? In Malawi we criticize everything. If the president Peter Mutharika; stays in the office everyone says he should go out!! If Joyce Banda goes out having four meetings per day and distributing chickens; we criticize her and says she is travelling too much. If Bushiri captures a baby through IPAD, Walks in the air and brings down angels during a service; we criticize him? We also love pitting people against each other. I have never heard Peter talking about Bushiri. The truth is that it is not easy to do… Read more »

I am a Northerner, I do not give a rats arse about Bushiri. He is what he is. Why is that important to warrant debate?

He is a business man so?

I have never known a country with so many educated fools like Malawi.
