Liberia donates K1m to Malawi, Flames remains 90 in FIFA world rankings

Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has given Malawi national football team, the Flames, a big boost when she donated about K1 million.

Sirleaf met Malawi squad and Liberia’s team on Wednesday at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia.

Football Association of Malawi officials have confirmed the donation and hailed the Liberian leader for the support.

The donation is a big boost to the team as in go into this Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Black Stars in Ghana.

Flames squad

Meanwhile the Flames remain on the 90th position in international football according to the latest rankings released by FIFA.

The table, which takes into account August’s internationals, sees the Flames remain fourth in Cosafa and 24th in Africa.

Reigning world and European champions Spain stay top, with Germany second and England third.

The rest of the top 10 is made up of Italy, Argentina, Holland, Croatia and Denmark.
