Lighting kills two young men in Mulanje

Two young men have been killed after they were struck with lightning which accompanied heavy rains yesterday in Mulanje.

Police said the two youngmen were aged 19 and 22.

They were struck at Sapala village in Mulanje.

The two were confirmed dead on arrival at M’biza health centre.

The In-Charge at the health centre, Bonnie Mpukunyula, said death was caused by lightning electric shock.

Village headman Sapala and Mkumbiza ward councillor Kondwani Namoyo said the two met their fate at Thuchira river where they were working as boat operators.

Meanwhile, in Dedza, a woman, aged 56, has died after unknown assailants crashed her head with a huge stone as she slept on the veranda of her house alongside her husband.

Police say the two decided to sleep on the veranda due to prevailing hot temperatures in the country.

The woman has been identified as Iness Kamkuza from Nazikhale village in the area of Traditional Authority  Kachindamoto in Dedza.

Dedza deputy police spokesperson, Cassim Manda, qoutes the husband as saying he heard a sound of something fallen with a thump only to find later that his wife’s head was in a pool of her blood he and a big stone beside her.

Since January this year, 46 people have been killed in Dedza district.
