Lightning ‘kills 3’, injures two in Phalombe
Three people have been killed in Phalombe following lightning strikes while attending to a funeral, and others have since been hospitalized, police confirmed.
The incident happened on the night of Tuesday 3rd November 2015 following heavy rain and thunder.
Phalombe police publicist, August Nkhwazi said it was during the rains when lightning struck at unsuspecting mourners at a funeral in Muliya village- Nyezerera T/A Kaduya in the district.
The three who died at the spot have been indetified as Gladys Mmeto of Chilumpha village, T/A Mulumbe, Zomba, Zione Jamali of Balakasi village, T/A Chikowi in Zomba and Juliana Kampandeni of Lolo village, T/A Nanseta in Thyolo.
The two who sustained injuries were rushed to Phalombe Health Centre for treatment, and have been identified as Zainabu Khamisi of Balakasi village, T/A Chikowi in Zomba and Doris Muhota of Muliya village T/A Kaduya in Phalombe

Very sad indeed. Is it a mere coincidence or what? All the deceased and the injured are female and yet a funeral ceremony is attended by a cross section of people. Are female highly vulnerable to lightening? School me on this.
