Lilongwe businessman Mike Msungama jailed

Lilongwe-based businessperson Michael Msungama has been convicted by a court and jailed 18 months imprisonment, Nyasa Times has learnt.

Msungama who runs a deluxe car hire, starring the only limousine in the capital, has been jailed in a case he was being accused of unlawfully acquiring property from outside the country including vehicles.

Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Patrick Chirwa after hearing the case found Msungama guilty and sentenced him to 18 months in jail.

Police spokesman for Lilongwe Police station confirmed to Nyasa Times that Msungama was sent to prison to start servicing his sentence.

Msungama’s fate came following his acquiring of a Toyota Fortuner which was used by an Accounts Assistant for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Patrick Sithole when he was arrested  for being found with K120 million which was in different currencies.

Sithole was arrested on September 7, 2013 and was charged with possessing property suspected to have been stolen and illegal possession of foreign currency.

Msungama went to police to claim the vehicle was his and police said it was stolen. Prosecutors successfully proved their case in court against Msungama, said Mshyani.

He has been convicted days before he was about to formally wed his wife Pilirani Chimbeleko Msungama.
