Limbe Cathedral supports early childhood education
Limbe Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Blantyre has moved in to support early childhood development education in a bid to give a chance especially the under-privileged children an opportunity to access it.
Parish Priest Fr Peter Kantembe said the Catholic Church has already established a centre at the church and another has just been opened soon at Muheko Village in T/A Somba.
Fr Kantembe said the church had a social responsibility to help the government in offering early childhood education to children at an early stage for them to become productive citizens in the country.
“In fact we have a Mary Meals branch at Tapani but further that at Muheko Village enclosure in T/A Somba which is very hard to reach place and there are a lot of kids who don’t have a privilege to access early childhood education,” Fr Kantembe said.
“We have a social responsibility in union with the government to reach out to every person regardless of their denomination because we are partners in development.”
He also said through a well wisher, who chose not to be identified, Limbe Cathedral managed to sponsor three caregivers for a two-week training in Early Childhood Care and Development conducted by Association of Early Childhood Association of Malawi from 9 to 21 in Blantyre.
He said the caregivers Agness Thomas and Emma Chitimbe would be able to offer services better following the training.

This is a plausible development. ECD is the way to go if we are to support and offer our children the best start in life. The catholic church is in the lead in as far as offering quality ECD In Malawi is concerned. I can cite some of their developments at Lusubilo in Karonga, Fernanda in Ntcheu, Comensoli in MonkeyBay, Ulongwe, Namwera just to mention a few where quality ECD is offered. Bravo Catholic church for complimenting and patnering government.
