LL Water board paid Mchacha’s honeymoon, purchased his furniture: HRDC wants ACB to investigate
Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) says it has received reports of abuse of office at Lilongwe Water Board involving former Minister of Water Charles Mchacha.
In a letter dated November 6 2020 to Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) boss Reyneck Matemba, HRDC chairperson Gif Trapence says they have received reports that Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) procured furniture for Mchacha during the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) reign.
Trapence further alleged that LWB also paid for the honeymoon of Mchacha.
“It is also alleged that Lilongwe Water Board used to pay for the cost of travel and hotel accommodation for Hon. Mchacha including on personal trips as well as on campaign trips across the country,” he said.
HRDC has since appealed to ACB to investigate these allegations.
ACB and Mchacha were not available for the comment. But Nyasa Times will give you there response once they reply to our questionnaire.

This is not really surprising or unusual.
This has happened in many government departments and still continues to happen.
Unfortunately there’s a common mentality of people especially in senior positions that they are the ‘Bwanas’ or owners and can do anything they see fit.
Even our culture is used to it, we give a lot of respect to our ‘Bwanas’ and are afraid to question them on anything.
This issue of some furniture or a honeymoon is just a drop in the ocean.

Malawi is getting smaller by the day for some, particularly the leading DPP gurus. There was the eloquent Henry Musa, the flamboyant Uladi Musa, the confused Reverend Mzomera Ngwira and now the daylight thief Mchacha whose arrest is no doubt imminent. Fortunately, contrary to the general misguided belief in the DPP camp, none of the above can claim political motive. The arrests are for criminal activities.
