State House confirms Chakwera’s relation involved in accident but not son Nick

State House director of communications and executive assistant to the President, Sean Kampondeni has clarified that President Lazarus Chakwera first born son Nick Chakwera was not the one  involved in an accident as being speculated on social media, saying infact it was another relation of the Malawi leader who had a crash.

Speaking in Mzuzu on Monday at the Weekly Brief, Kampondeni said the President has four children (3 girls and a son Nick) who are all in good health and none of them was involved in an accident.

Some oneline platforms were awash with reports Saturday morning that Nick’s vehicle hit that of a High Court judge, alleging he looked drunk and wanted a fight with the judge after the accident.

The unfounded reports also said bags full of money were found in Nick’s vehicle.

But Kampondeni, who is also President Chakwera’s son-in-law,  said Nick Chakwera is well and has been in Lilongwe throughout this weekend and therefore he could have been involved in an accident in Blantyre.

He condemned online platforms who carried the story as “fake news” outlets.

But Kapondeni said one of the Chakwera’s family member was the one involved in the accident but not Nick.

He shielded the name of the President’s relation.

However, Nyasa Times understands that the one involved in the accident is William, a son-in-law to the President.

Stop this numerous lies coming from state house. Yesterday you were refuting that no-one was involved today you are saying it is a relation to the President. Tell the nation who and what about the rumours of bags of money being removed from the scene of accident. Mind you you cannot hide facts in modern Malawi. It will only chip on your credibility of weekly press lies to the nation
