Lomwe, Zeus back in Big Brother house
After spending 91 days in last season’s Big Brother Africa (BBA) house, Malawi’s representative, Lomwe is expected to go back in the house, this time not as a housemate but a performer.
The 2011 finalist, real name Tendai Namate, is earmarked to perform on July 22, alongside Botswana’s housemate in the same season, rapper Game Bantsi well known by his stage name Zeus.
The news comes at a time that Malawians have been expecting artists like Armstrong, Sonye, Gwamba, Piksy and Rina to represent Malawi in one of the eviction shows this year.
Recently, there was an article that was making rounds on the internet, saying the four were probable Malawian artists to perform in the house their music is at the moment enjoying airplay in the country, but a source told Nyasa Times that “Lomwe is the one going”.
Both MultiChoice Malawi sales and marketing manager for the South, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, and the rapper confirmed in separate interviews with Nyasa Times on Tuesday.
“I got the communication from M-Net yesterday [Monday] and I will be performing a week before the final show,” said Lomwe.
Expressing his contentment, the 29-year-old rapper said, “It’s an exciting thing.”
“We have been trying very hard to get that opportunity to perform at such platform and I am very thrilled that it has finally come along,” he said.
Having represented the country as a housemate last season, and knowing that he will be going back in the house as a performer, Lomwe described the experience as a “déjà vu”, saying it would bring back a lot of memories.
This will be Lomwe’s first live performance on such international stage and TV beamed to millions of fans across Africa since he launched his music career in the 90s.
The rapper, also popularly known as ‘Nyau Killa’, who alongside Zeus recently released their ‘Double Wowza’ hit single, off their ‘Double Wowza’ mixtape, disclosed the two were happy with the support Africa is giving them.
“It’s been three weeks since we released the video on YouTube and Channel O and it’s getting good rotation. People across Africa love it and it will be a big thing performing the song live in SA,” said Lomwe.
He further disclosed that the mixtape will soon be released on the internet for fans all over the world to access the music for free.
Meanwhile, having been inactive in the country after his return from BBA, the former FM 101 radio DJ exclusively revealed to Nyasa Times that he will be taking the same lane he was before BBA.
“I have been behind the scenes planning, and now I’ll be taking steps forward. Now it’s time for people to see what I have been up to. I’ll be getting back on radio as well as club deejaying,” revealed Lomwe, but denied to mention the name of the radio.
In Malawi, Lomwe is best known for his songs ‘Nyau Killa’, ‘You don’t want it’, ‘Run the city’ and ‘Double Wowza’, which is currently enjoying airplay on local radios as well as Channel O music TV.
