‘Long live Mutharika’ — Malawi VP Ansah praises president during Nkhotakota donation drive”
Malawi’s Vice President Dr Jane Ansah has publicly thanked President Peter Mutharika for choosing her as his running mate in the 2025 elections, showering him with praise as she reflected on becoming the country’s second-in-command.
Speaking during a charitable visit, the Vice President — who also serves as a Bishop at her church — expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the President, declaring “long live Mutharika” as she thanked him for the opportunity to serve in one of the nation’s highest offices.
Ansah didn’t hold back in her praise for the veteran leader, offering him a blessing rooted in her own faith, wishing him “God bless him for long life.”
The Vice President made her comments while donating essential items to vulnerable communities in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota District, through the Jane Ansah Foundation, an initiative she says is close to her heart.
During the visit, Ansah encouraged Malawians to remain determined and work towards becoming independent and self-sustaining, urging communities to form cooperatives and groups so they could receive assistance in building sustainable livelihoods.
“We have asked them to form cooperatives and groups, and they should be assisted, to become independent, self-sustaining. Because these people come from families so that they can also support the households,” Ansah said.
“We will assist them with everything, whether it’s farming, we’ll assist them with seed and fertiliser, as we did in Rumphi,” she added.
The Jane Ansah Foundation donated 400 bags of maize, alongside blankets, soya pieces, bicycles and other essential supplies to vulnerable groups in the area — support Ansah said reflected her broader commitment to helping those facing difficult circumstances.
She went on to express her gratitude to President Mutharika directly, thanking him for appointing her as his deputy, a role she said has enabled her to reach and assist vulnerable communities right across Malawi.
Local leaders welcomed the Vice President’s visit warmly. Senior Chief Kanyenda applauded Ansah for visiting his area and providing timely relief items, saying the assistance had arrived at exactly the right moment for communities still recovering from recent hardship.
Member of Parliament for Nkhunga Constituency, Dorothy Chikonje, also thanked the Vice President for the donation, noting that many elderly people, people with physical disabilities, people of short stature and people with albinism in the area had been struggling with hunger following floods experienced during the last rainy season.
The Jane Ansah Foundation says its mission is to empower and improve the lives of socioeconomically disadvantaged and marginalised people, including orphaned children, vulnerable families, the elderly, persons living with disabilities, and people with albinism, through sustainable support and empowerment programmes.
