Lucius Banda now UDF leader in parliament
United Democratic Front (UDF) has appointed Balaka North Parliamentarian Lucius ‘soldier’ Banda as the party’s leader in parliament replacing Atupele Muluzi who has joined cabinet.
He will be deputised by former foregn affairs minister Lilian Patel.

Muluzi, UDF president, relinquished the position of the party’s leader in parliament following his appointment as Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mines as he will sit in the government front bench.
Speaker of Parliament, Richard Msowoya announced Thursday morning that Banda who was deputy leader will be assuming the role of the leader of UDF in Parliament.
Muluzi, 35, joined President Peter Mutharika’s 20-man member cabinet and said he wants to serve and contribute to transformational change.
He pledged to advance his agenda of change through his position and to ensure the opposition bloc is not affected or compromised.
Lucius Banda reclaimed his Parliamentary seat years after losing it following a court conviction on alleged MSCE certificate forgery. He was acquitted by the High Court in Blantyre which also set aside all the convictions the lower courts made.
