MACRA Applauds TNM’s Investment in Improved Network Quality

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has commended Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) for its continued investment in improving network quality and delivering reliable telecommunications services to Malawians.

MACRA Board Chairperson Chancy Gondwe made the remarks in Blantyre when the authority’s board toured TNM’s Call Centre in Limbe as part of a familiarisation visit aimed at appreciating the company’s operations, understanding the challenges it faces and exploring areas of collaboration.

Gondwe said the newly appointed board was impressed with the strides TNM has made in expanding and strengthening its network infrastructure, describing the progress as evidence of the company’s commitment to quality service delivery.

“This has been a very successful tour and, as a regulator, we are impressed by the investments TNM is making to ensure Malawians continue to enjoy better telecommunications services,” said Gondwe.

“While there are many positive developments, we also acknowledge that the company faces a number of challenges, particularly the scarcity of foreign currency. As a regulator, we will continue working closely with TNM and other stakeholders to help find solutions to such challenges.”

He said the visit had provided the board with first-hand insight into the company’s operations and the efforts being made to improve customer experience across the country.

TNM Chief Executive Officer Michel Hebert welcomed the visit, describing it as an important opportunity to engage directly with the regulator and showcase the company’s investments and operations.

“We are delighted to host the MACRA board. The visit has given us an opportunity to demonstrate the scale of our operations, the investments we are making and the challenges we encounter in our efforts to expand and improve services,” said Hebert.

“It has also provided a platform for us to present our concerns directly to the regulator. By seeing how we operate, we believe MACRA will be in a better position to support our efforts as we continue investing in network expansion and service improvement.”

TNM remains one of Malawi’s leading mobile network operators and has continued to invest in infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing connectivity and customer satisfaction across the country.
