Malata set for next move

Flames in and out towering central defender Lucky Malata is set to end all speculations regarding his next move following the expiry of his contract at Silver Strikers.

Malata: Next move takes him to Blantyre

Malata who has been with silver for over seven years told Nyasa Times that the decision not to renew his contract with the central bankers was up to the club’s executive.

He said people have talked a lot on his next move but he and his Manager are the ones who knows the truth of the matter.

“I have heard a lot of these speculations. But as a professional footballer, I cannot just wake up on a single morning and start commenting on these speculations. My relatives and friends have been calling all the time asking about my situation but am old enough to make a decision and that decision will be made public soon,” said Malata.

On speculations linking him to a possible move to either Bullets or Wanderers, the former Flames captain said they are rumours and cannot comment on them.

“I don’t know anything about Bullets or Wanderers speculations but all I know is that my Manager is working on my next move. He knows what I want and he is only there to negotiate what is best for me. All I know is that he is busy finalising the deal with my next club,” said Malata.

Meanwhile, Malata has pleaded with supporters of every club that footballers are like other professionals and as such can change clubs just like how any other individual can do with jobs.

“I find it awkward when some people accuse players for ditching their clubs. I don’t think it’s proper because we have families to take care and as such we also need to look for greener pasture elsewhere. However, sometimes it’s not only about money but the environment,” Malata said.

It is reported that Silver Strikers have now officially given the player a go ahead to join a team of his choice after failing to agree on terms. Malata also confirmed to Nyasa Times that Silver has given him a go ahead to join a team of his choice.
