Malawi airborne geophysical survey 98% complete
Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining Atupele Muluzi has described the on-going airborne geophysical survey as an exciting opener to the country’s mining industry as the raw data gathered in the 98 per cent completed survey has proved to bring positive results for the country’s mining industry.
Atupele said this on Wednesday at Mchenga Coal Mines in Rumphi district after visiting Sander geophysics limited operational base in Karonga where he was briefed on the status of the survey taking place by the Sander consultants.
He said the results he got from the consultants are promising as they will bring a change in the country’s economic history where agriculture has been the major Gross Domestic Product (GDP) earner.
However, Atupele said currently his ministry is not able to release the results of the survey as it hasn’t been completed yet with two percent remaining on data collection, saying the country has to be patient for the consultants to analyse their data and bring out the results.
The data collected includes: Radiometric which prospects for radioactive minerals such as Uranium, Magnetics which prospects for iron bearing minerals and Gravity which prospects oil and gas.
The airborne geophysical survey was launched in November last year.
