Malawi army soldier shoots ex-lover, turns gun on himself
A private soldier for Malawi Defence Force (MDF) is battling for life at the Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe after she was shot at by her lover, also a soldier.
The man also shot himself in the chest over issues reportedly bordering on their love affair and was also admitted to the same hospital.
The two Malawi Army soldiers are both reportedly in a critical condition after being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The incident occurred at the Kamuzu Barracks in Lilongwe where both soldiers, whose identities have been concealed, are stationed.
Kamuzu Barracks Chief of Staff, Brigadier Clement Namangale, said the boyfriend, angry with girlfriend’s action, allegedly pulled the trigger on Friday.
It was not immediately known why the female soldier decided to end their love affair.
Brigadier Namangale said the female soldier met her fate while the man was on duty.
The man, according to Brigadier Namangale, approached his lover to reportedly plead with her why she had thought of ending their affair.
However, their discussion exploded into a heated disagreement after the man lost his temper.
It was at this juncture he decided to shoot the female soldier before turning the rifle on his chest.
The Chief of Staff said the two were then rushed to the hospital where they were admitted to the life saving section- ICU.
Meanwhile, Brigadier Namangale said the matter has been referred to military police for action.
