Malawi beat Zambia in opening match of Netball Diamond Challenge

Malawi national netball team, the Queen, has done what needed to be doneClaiming a fairly neat victory over Zambia in the opening match of the Netball Diamond Challenge  played in South Africa.

The match ended 75 – 32 in favour of Malawi Queens.

Inspired by towering Austrian based Mwayi Kumwenda and goal attack Sindi Simtowe were a challenge for  Zambia. The Queens proved that they were at the tournament for serious business playing  physical and body-checking style of play.

The youthful squad also comprises  Joyce Mvula ,  Bridget Kumwenda, Beatrice Kadango, Tina Kamuyambeni and Thandi Galeta.

Others are  Caroline Ngwira, Towera Vinkhumbo, Grace Mhango, Joana Kachilika and Loraine Ngwira.

The objective of the tournament is to celebrate the role of women in sports and in particular elevate the profile of netball in South Africa as that country celebrates women’s month.

Malawi will face Botswana on Thursday in a televised match on SuperSport  from 17:50 on  SS7 / SS7N.

They face the hosts South Africa on  Friday  at 19.25.

The tournament will prepare the Malawi Queens as they prepare for the World Netball Series in New Zealand in November this year which will draw the world’s top six netball nations.
