Malawi boywonder Gaba hits a brace for AmaZulu on trials

Malawian striker on trials  at South Africa Premier Soccer League outfit AmaZulu, Gabadinho Mhango enters his second week after scoring twice in team’s friendly match they won 3-1 against a Durban team on Saturday.

Patrick Mabedi, Malawi’s national team assistant coach, who is trials’ linkman, expressed confidence that Gaba would to win a contract with the club.

Gaba performance is reported to have impressed the AmaZulu technical panel as they are shaping up for the July 18 Nelson Mandela Invitational match against English Premier League giants Manchester City.

The 20-year-old striker has been prolific over the past two seasons in local football and was recommended to AmaZulu by Mabedi.

Despite being still at school in Malawi, he won the flagship TNM Super League’s player of the season in the last campaign with a ratio of almost a goal a game for his Big Bullets FC.

He also netted for Malawi in their 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Namibia in Windhoek in March.

Gabadinho is expected to spend the entire month in Durban as AmaZulu have a thorough look at the forward.

He was signed from his village team Brave Warriors in 2010, playing in the second division with them before earning a move to top side Bullets a year later.
