Malawi call-ups for Thindwa, Bashir

Current top goal scorer in Malawi’s Super League and a clear favorite for the golden boot award, Ishamel Thindwa of Epac United has been handed a call for the national team, the Flames which will take part in this year’s Council for East and Central Football Associations Senior Challenge Cup.

Flames coach Kinnah Phiri on Thursday realeased a 23-man squad ahead of the tournament schedulled to kick off on 25th November  in Tanzania.

Kinnah said Thindwa is a promising star and that he would want to invest in his talent.

“”He’s an interesting player and a player who scores goals,” Kinnah told Nyasa Times about Thindwa.

In his squad, the Flames mentor has included Mighty Wanderers vast experienced midfielder Joseph ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo.

Other new faces are Bashir Maunde and Blue Eagles versatile player John Banda.

There is also return of Civo United duo Emmanuel ‘Siyeni’ Zoya and John ‘Kintu’ Lanjesi.

Mighty Wanderers captain Foster ‘Zagaf’Namwera and Nafe Msasa are also in the squad.

Football Association of Malawi general Secretary Sugzo Nyirenda said the team is expected assemble on Sunday 20th November in Blantyre.

Nyirenda also said that the team is expected to leave for Tanzania on November 27.

Goalkeepers:  Charles Swini,Vincent Gona and Mac Donald Harawa

Defenders: Foster Namwera, Bashir Maunde, Emmanuel Zoya, John Lanjesi, Pililani Makupe, Steve Chagoma, Ndaziona Chilemba

Midfielders: Nafe Msasa, Joseph Kamwendo, Frank Banda, Ndaziona Chatsalira, Chimango Kaira, Malumbo Gondwe, Henry Kabichi, John Banda.

Strikers: Ishamael Thindwa, Divasoni Chilemba, Loti Chawinga, Gastin Simukonda and Kumbukani Mwambeni.
