Malawi Carlsberg cup semis on despite Flames engagements

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has confirmed that Carlsberg Cup semifinal matches will take place this weekend, despite national team engagements.

The Flames is expected to fly to Kampala Uganda on Thursday November 22, for the CECAFA Tusker Challenge cup and it has been a tradition that teams contributing at least three players to the national side are given games.

FAM General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda says the organising committee for the 2012 Carlsberg Malawi cup tournament agreed to go ahead with the semifinals as originally scheduled.

“We have arranged that the players from Blue Eagles and Escom who were supposed to travel together with the Malawi National Team delegation to Uganda on Thursday 22ndNovember, 2012 will fly out on Sunday 25th November 2012 after fulfilling the Semi Final matches,” said Nyirenda.

He added that the organizing committee will soon announce the date and venue of the finals originally scheduled for December 1, 2012 but may have to change if Blue Eagles and Escom United make it to the final.

Blue Eagles have contributed three players to the Flames squad for the CECAFA Tusker challenge cup, namely Steven Chagoma, Patrick Masanjala and Macium Mhone while Escom have striker Chiukepo Msowoya.

Escom will play Kabwafu at Mzuzu Stadium while Blue Eagles take on Evirom at Silver Stadium. Both games will be played on Saturday.
