Malawi Catholic Church reaffirm their stand against abortion: ‘Every person is precious’
Chairman for the Episcopal Conference of Malawi, Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa of Blantyre Archdiocese has condemned the Termination of Pregnancy Bill being advocated and campaigned by different quarters of the society in Malawi saying the Catholic Church is not in support of the idea, reaffirming respect for the sanctity of life.
.Archbishop Msusa was speaking in Karonga on the occasion of the consecration and inauguration of St. Joseph the worker Cathedral which was officially consecrated by His Eminence Fernando Cardinal Filoni, Prefect for the Congregation of the Evangelisation of people at the Holy See.
Abortion rights activists with international support are working to legalize more abortions in Malawi, saying legal restrictions drive women to commit illegal abortions that are unsafe for the women’s health.
CCAP Blantyre Synod leader Rev Alex Maulana and some sections of Malawi Council of Churches are backing the culture of death, campaigning for abortion legislatiom.
But the head of the influential Catholic church in Malawi reaffirmed that every person is precious, that people are more important than things, and that the measure of every society is whether it threatens or enhances the life and dignity of the human person.
He said the Patron of the Cathedral,St Joseph the Worker bravely accepted the responsibility to take care of,to defend and protect the baby Jesus from all harm hence this should serve as a reminder on the stand of the Catholic Church on abortion.
“The Catechism of the Catholic Church,number 2258 says,human life is sacred because from its beginning until end,no one can under any circumstance claim for himself the right directly to destroy a innocent human being,”he said adding that the same Catechism,number 2270 says,human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception and from the first moment of his existence,a human being must be recognized as having rights of a person.
He therefore challenged Catholic faithful to stand against those that are advocating for the abortion bill.
According to the activists, legal restrictions make women to commit illegal abortions that put that health of the women at risk.
But the Ctaholic church urges women that undergo the ‘tormenting experience’ of abortion to seek God’s mercy.

Why is it the Catholic Church and these bishops cannot see the suffering of Malawians The population is now more than 17 1/2 million where people cannot feed themselves without subsity, the wood forests are almost gone to even start a fire to cook, Please except an abortion maybe the only way to reduce family poverty, crime, murder and suicides, The population continues to increase but the available land size of Malawi is being reduced because buildings, roads and poor weather conditions Priests may not indulge in sex but the rest of the human race does, and mistakes may happen.… Read more »
