Malawi coach calls up Angola-based Sangala
Malawi national football team coach Kinnah Phiri has included Angola based experienced defender James Sangala in the Flame squad that will participate in the 2011 Cecafa senior challenge cup which kicks off on November 25 in Tanzania.
Football Association of Malawi(FAM) chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda confirmed in an email to Nyasa Times that Sangala has been included in the squad because the league in Angola is on a break.
“Its true that the coach has included Sangala on the list of the squad for Cecafa senior challenge cup because the league in Angola is on break untill February 2012,” he said.
This should be good news to the coach who will have a couple of experienced players at this bigger football showpiece.
“This should excite the coach because it strengthens the squad and we know are not just going to participate as guests but will compete for honours,” he added.
Kinnah released a 23 man squad earlier this week which is expected to go into camp this Sunday.
The squad includes current TNM SuperĀ League top scorer Ishmael Thindwa, experienced players like Joseph Kamwendo, Emmanuel Zoya,Foster Namwera and John Lanjesi .
The Flames will open their campaign with a game against Kenya’s Harambe stars on November 28 in Group C.
Their next game will be against Sudan 24 hours later.
