Malawi coach Pasuwa names six debutants in Flames squad for AFCON qualifiers
Flames head coach Kalisto Pasuwa has handed maiden senior national team call-ups to six players as Malawi begins preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Pasuwa announced the squad during a news conference held on Monday morning, September 14, 2026, at Mpira House in Chiwembe, Blantyre.
The new faces include Japan-based midfielder Blessings Kanowa of Nankatsu SC, Mexico-based midfielder Jorden Kananga of Zacatepec FC, Wales-based forward Shaquille Gwengwe of Newport County, and Adiel Kaduya of Mustangs University.
Locally based players Peter Ng’ambi of Mighty Wanderers and Ajussa Kalowa of Blue Eagles have also earned their first senior national team call-ups.
The selection marks a significant opportunity for the six players, as Pasuwa looks to assemble a competitive squad for Malawi’s 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
Kanowa’s inclusion will be of particular interest, having been named alongside fellow Nankatsu SC midfielder Washali Jaziya. The squad also blends experienced overseas-based players with established domestic performers.
Other notable selections include Patrick Mwaungulu of TP Mazembe, Mayele Malango of Sacramento Republic FC, Charles Petro of Botosani, Mwisho Mhango of Hannover 96, and Lloyd Njaliwa of Caps United.
Pasuwa has named a 30-player squad comprising three goalkeepers, eight defenders, 10 midfielders and nine forwards.
