Malawi coach trims squad: Sumani axed on disciplinary grounds

Malawi National Team Caretaker Coach Gerald Phiri has trimmed his squad from 32 to 22 ahead an international friendly match against Chinese Club Guangzhou R and F slatted for  Saturday 28h January 2017.

The game is part of the activities to mark the official opening of the magnificent Bingu Nation Olympic Stadium which was built with funding from the Chinese government in Lilongwe.

Details sorced on Malawi FA website indicates that nine players have been dropped due to under-perfomance comparing to others while Ted Sumani of Mighty Wanderers has been dropped on disciplinary grounds.

The list of those dropped include enterprising winger Thusso Paipi and Duncan Nyoni from Silver Strikers, Maneno Nyoni of Nyasa Big Bullets and Khumbo Msowoya who has just signed for new Super League entrants Master Security Services from Karonga United.

The other players are Isaac Mwale, Ben Manyozo, Lwandiko Mshanie, Travor Kalema and Lughano Kaira.

The final remaining squad in camp will be captained by Kamuzu Barracks skipper Lehman Nthala.

Other notable players remaining in the squad include Be Forward Wanderers defender Stanley Sanudi, Mark Fodya and Levison Maganizo from, Silve Strikers, Dalitso Sailes and Mike Mkwate from Nyasa Big Bulletsi, Yamikani Chester,  and Hygiene Mwandepeka.

Phiri has picked only three strikers namely Binwell Katinji of Silver Strikers, Bright Munthali of Azam Tigers and Khumbo Ng’ambi from Be Forward Wanderers.

This is a squad of youthful players promoted from the under 20 aiming at grooming the players to represent the Malawi Nation in the next African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Goalkeepers:

Lehman Nthala, Brighton Munthali and William Thole.

Defenders:

Stanley Sanudi, Hygiene Mwandepeka, Chisomo Mpachika, Lawrence Chaziya, Mike Ntonyo, Mark Fodya.

Midfielders:

Mphatso Dzongololo, Levison Maganizo, Gregory Nachipo, Jack Chiona, Simeon Sanga, Isaac Kaliati, Mike Mkwate, Dalitso Sailesi, Righteous Banda, Yamikani Chester.

Strikers:

Binwell Katinji, Bright Munthali and Khumbo Ng’ambi.
