Malawi court jails man for calling his albino wife ‘deal’

A 28 year old man has been slapped with a two year jail sentence for allegedly calling her albino wife real ‘deal’.

Central Region Police Deputy Spokesperson Jessica Mphasa identified the convict as Amos Musonkho who hails from M’biza Village in the Area of Traditional Authority Chikumbu in the Southern Region District of Mulanje.

According to the Police Publicist, the convict recently went to his home with a Mozambican friend and on their conversation described the wife as a ‘wanted deal’ before having a telephone conversation days later alerting the potential customers that all is set to complete the move.

During the process, the wife overhead him and reported the mater to relevant authorities.

The convict was arrested five days later as he was reportedly on the run.

During court appearance, Musonkho was charged with two counts of Intimidation and use of insulting words which is contrary to sections 88 sub-section 1 (a) and 182 of the Penal Code which he pleaded guilty.

This upon court hearing prompted Senior Resident Magistrate Sheen Yona to slap him with a 24 months Imprisonment With Hard Labour (IHL) sentence after the state prosecution team prayed for a stiffer punishment to detar other would be offenders.

This comes at a time Police, Government, Human Rights bodies and Malawian s in general are working around the clock to curb the behaviour of abusing and killing of people with albinism.

this guy had motive, given a chance, the wife wud have been murdered. 2 years is not enough. Nyasa times, next time let us know how the defendant pleaded. Sad legal system
