Malawi eased out of Cecafa by hosts TZ
Malawi national football team, the Flames, have been booted out of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup by hosts Tanzania 1-0 in a quarterfinal final match played on Tuesday in Dar es Salaam .
The Flames were invited to the tournament as guests alongside Zimbabwe, who also lost earlier to Uganda.
Tanzania will now meet Uganda Cranes who are seeking their 12 title of the competition.
The semifinal will be played on Thursday.
Malawi conceded in the 36 minutes when Bakari Nurdin netted a power packed shot from a long range beating Charles Swini in goal.
Kinnah Phiri, coach for Malawi blamed match officials for favoring the hosts.
“They didn’t deserve to be in the semi-finals. Referee was on their side,” Kinnah protested after the match.
However, he was criticized by Malawi fans for “gambling” in his starting line-up when he left on bench inform Henry Kabichi, Nafe Msasa and Gaston Simkonda.
He however gave Malawi Super League leading goal scorer Ishmael Thindwa an international debut.
Thindwa, who had just joined the squad, did not tick.
