Malawi establishes diplomatic ties with Kosovo
Malawi and Kosovo have established formal diplomatic relations with effect from Thursday, July 20, 2016.
Malawi’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Brian Bowler and the Consul General of the Republic of Kosovo in New York, Mrs. Teuta Sahatqija signed the agreement on behalf of their respective governments in a joint communiqué.
According to the communiqué, the Governments of Malawi and Kosovo will cooperate in promoting ties of friendship between the two countries, widening the horizons of mutual cooperation, and supporting the cause of international peace and security.
Further, the communiqué states that the diplomatic ties between Malawi and Kosovo reaffirm the commitment of both Governments to the principles of the United Nations and International Law, including mutual respect for national sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of another state.
“The Government of the Republic of Malawi and the Government of the Republic of Kosovo are fully convinced that the establishment of diplomatic relations corresponds to the interests of both states and will further strengthen international peace and security and cooperation,” says the communiqué in part.
What benefit can Malawi gain from Kosovo? No wonder the agreement was signed on July 20.
After all these years of trepidation and uncertainty, it is reassuring to learn that we need no longer fear invasion from Kosovo. Congratulations – Mr Bowler! Your Nobel Peace Prize is in the post.
