Revolutionalising Malawi football with Beta Television

Malawi football’s dream to turn more professional comes of age this weekend with the live beaming of the TNM Super League through BETA TV and it could not have come better than having two games involving the country’s top teams — Mighty Be Forward Wanderers, Blue Eagles, Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers.

Silver Strikers are topping the log table with 26 points from 12 games of eight wins, two draws and two losses while Blue Eagles are third with 25 points also from 12 games of eight wins, one draw and two losses.

The two travel to Blantyre to meet the city’s arch rivals Mighty Be Forward Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets at the Kamuzu Stadium to date the first of BETA TV’s live coverage of the country’s flagship football league.

Wanderers are on position 11 with 20 points from five wins, five draws and one loss while the Bullets are on position nine with 19 points from 11 games of five wins, four draws and two losses.

Both Wanderers and Bullets are on a catch-up race for the top spot after been affected by a long break because they had contributed a bulk of their players to the national team in June for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zimbabwe and the Cosafa Cup in Namibia.

Meanwhile, the other teams were fulfilling their TNM Super League assignments back home. Wanderers are six points behind the leaders Silver with one game advantage and they will be praying that once they beat Blue Eagles then Nyasa Bullets should win against Silver.

But Silver might carry full points since they are meeting bottom of the table MTV Max Bullets at Kalulu Stadium. The rookies have found the going tough and only managed four points from four draws in 13 games.

They have lost nine games including last Wednesday’s 1-5 loss against Nyasa Big Bullets. However, Silver should not underestimate the rookies because anything can happen just like what Karonga United when they stunned Big Bulets 1-0 in Mzuzu three weeks ago.

On third place are Mafco with 25 points from  13 games of seven wins, four draws and two losses while Kamuzu Barracks are fourth with 22 points from 14 games of six wins, four draws and four losses.

Moyale and Mzuni tie on 21 points but Moyale are 5th because of goal difference with Mzuni on 6th. Mzuni FC date 13th-placed Wizards FC at Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday while 11th-placed Civo United host Karonga United (15) at Civo Stadium

On Sunday Moyale will meet Wizards at  Mzuzu Stadium with Dwangwa United hosting  Karonga United  at Chitowe Stadium. Epac (position 10) meet 8th-placed  Azam Tigers at Civo Stadium.

So, all is set to revolutionalise Malawi football through the live coverage of the league through BETA TV.

The official signing ceremony was done on Thursday in Blantyre where BETA TV Managing Director Maneno Mtawali  said they have a vision  to see Malawi football attain great standards.

“We are in this with Sulom, the Super League sponsors and media at large,” he said at the launch. “We are not here to compete but rather to partner with other media houses for the good of football development.”

He said they realise that the corporate world is also a key partner to make their  dream of revolutionalising football in this country.

He emphasised that  for Malawi football to develop, they cannot do this alone and urged all stakeholders including corporate world, media houses and even individuals to do the little they can to contribute to making Malawi football grow.

“We are proud of this milestone and hope we will do the millions of football fans in the country proud to deliver the best possible television broadcasting. We know Football fans deserve better and we will work very hard, inch by inch to satisfy their expectations,” Mtawali said.

The following is the log table:
