Malawi failed to take advantage of home support to finish second to South Africa in the Zone VI Youth Darts tournament hosted in Blantyre.
Malawi’s failed to win overrall gold medal after a poor performance in the individual events after managing to win two gol medals in Under-15 categories both girls and boys and a silver medal in Under-18 boys.
It was the in the Under-18 gilrs category that saw the hosts performing badlt finsihing on fifth out of the seven countries including Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
But in the individual events Malawi only managed silver through Mphatse Kachele in the Under-18 boys’ category.
Lloyd Tsamba, Mphatso Kachele, Gracian Kachingwe, Chikondi Chiwandila, Ephraim Longwe and Wongani Mdolo led the Malawi team to Under-15 boys’ category while Tamara Munthali, Moira Masanza, Chisomo Banda, Yasinta Binauli and Mwai Theu shined for in the girls’ team.
The Under-18 Malawi boys’ team comprised Reuben Baloyi, Misheck Manda, Evance Msimuko, Roderick Dzimbiri, Evance Chimbalanga and Henry Kamoto.
Tournament Director Charles Katola, who is vice president of Zone VI Darts Association, said the players have done Malawi proud.
“I would like to thank the technical team, players and their parents for allowing the children to play,” Katola said.
Head of technical committee John Mbwana said he was not surprised with the feat.
“It is an honour for us to win two gold medals and silver on home soil,” Mbwana said.
Malawi finished second overall with South Africa emerging the winner after dominating the individual events.
Swaziland finished third, Botswana fourth, Zambia fifth, Zimbabwe sixth and Namibia seventh.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
