Young stated that he was personally disappointed at how some top Malawi government officials are fight those who are fighting corruption in Malawi saying; “Corruption is fighting back.”
Responding to the accusations, Government Spokesperson Moses Kunkuyu says the engagement will be done in the spirit of mutual respect, without compromising the duty of government to protect the sovereignty of Malawi.
“The Malawi Government, out of respect for international laws, including the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, will engage the US Embassy and Ambassador through diplomatic channels to address the concerns raised,” reads part of the statement dated 8th February, 2023.
“This will be done in the spirit of mutual respect, without compromising the duty of government to protect the sovereignty of Malawi and the independence of domestic public institutions and their officials from foreign interference, as well as in the quest for continued cooperation in the development of Malawi and its people.”

The statement added that government will not relent in the corruption fight by continuing the implementation of its strategy of strengthening governance institutions that each have a critical role in the fight, including law enforcement agencies, public prosecutors, and the courts.

“In that context, government maintains its resolve to continue its unwavering support of the Anti-Corruption Bureau as an institution by making it more functionally independent and more resourced than it has ever been, with the expectation that this will result in the successful and speedy completion of all the cases the bureau is handling,” reads the statement.

  1. Is Malawi trying to pick on the might of USA, UK and EU? If so, say goodbye to all aid from them. We will then have to eat grass.
This Minister must be totally ignorant and illiterate. He should be sacked now.

  2. What a contradictory statement.. when you are saying government will not relent it’s fight against corruption.. when we ..the general public.. know that..the government is afraid of Martha Chizuma.. that’s why as government..you used that guy in the leaked audio..so that you can remove her! Why are you as government.. not arresting that guy in the leaking audio? Reason..we know..if the issue goes to court..some big fishes will be exposed.. through the conversations you had or you are still having with that guy in the leaked audio! Amalawi simbuli ngati kale! Zikomo..But with 50% + 1 vote in the constitution now.. you need to be very careful..on how you are playing your cards! God is has exposed you big time! You arrested Chizuma..& lied to us that you didn’t know. We need another National Address by the president..in case he doesn’t know again.. that the corrupt people in his government..are fighting Chizuma whom he entrusted..to fight corruption! But now..we have discovered that..we were lied to..a big time! Mulungu si Jemusi.. this you should know! Please..the courts..khalani mbali ya chilungamo..& protect Malawi..from fire!!! MCP.. remember how DPP party was removed from government.. you are Not exceptional..! Believe me! Zimayamba..chomwechi..the moment you close your ears..to the cries of the general public.. that’s the beginning of your downfall! May the president come back to his senses.. otherwise..we as the general public..we are losing trust in him & his government! He should stop playing double standards!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are not kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
