Malawi govt renames Karonga-Chitipa road to Bingu Highway

Government has renamed the Karonga -Chitipa Road to Bingu Highway.

Road named after late Bingu wa Mutharika

The Office of the President and Cabinet made the announcement following the completion of the multi-billion Chinese funded road.

However, some Malawians on social media have blamed the government for renaming the road after the former head of state.

They claim Malawi has a lot of personalities, dead or alive whose names can be used on the road.

The government has also named the new stadium in Lilongwe after Bingu wa Mutharika.

Fitting as this will be a reminder that he sold this country to the Chinese as the road degrades in less than a year or two.

If I build a shop and decide to give it the name of my fiancee, is that wrong? What’s the fuss here? Didn’t you hear Chakwera celebrating that Kamuzu’s names were reinstated on a thousand plus structures that bore his name?

Koma kuli kuphulika ndi nsanje zaka zake ndi zino hehehehe. Bingu deserves it, hate him or not but he does. Ntchito za manja ake zimenezi. Inu ntchito zamanja anu zili kuti? There is no honor or respect for free. If you want to be honored with for example one of the roads bearing your name then you need to do something tangible for Malawians. Ise nsanje tilije. Let the road be Bingu Highway.

So the mngerezi just tried to build one but did not successfully do it. On the other hand, Bingu did not just try but he successfully constructed it. Between these two who should take the credit? I know Bingu did not come from your region but nonetheless he loved you and your region. This road is a clear evidence of his love for the people in this region. You can’t snatch away Bingu’s credits from him. He earned them. Period!

We have the Chakufwa Chihanas, the Matchipisa munthari who really sacrificed their lives for a Democratic change but of all deserving people you chose this fool’s name to surface in the north where he massacred 20 people. This is uncalled for and an insult to northerners believe you me where ever you will put the post of that name will be removed day in day out mark my words.

Chakufwa Chihana was supposed to build a road and call it after himself. Amatchipisa Muntharirewo was too supposed to do something and call it after himself. Alternatively, you yourself can build like a hospital and call it that name. But this road is a brain child of late prof. Bingu wa Mutharika and he must take his deserving credit. Ise jealousy tilije. Let the works of his hands speak for him.
