“It is with deep regret that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation informs the general public of the passing on of High Commissioner Flossie Gomile Chidyaonga in Dar-es-Salaam this afternoon, after a short illness,” spokesman for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Quent Kalichero said in a statement.

The statement said funeral arrangements “will be communicated in due course.”

Gomile-Chidyaonga was the Deputy High Commissioner of Malawi to Britain before moving to Tanzania when she was involved in a diplomatic spat between Malawi and the United Kingdom in 2011 due to a leaked diplomatic cable that had president late Bingu wa Mutharika expelled the British envoy. Chidyaonga was sent packing from London in a tit-for-tat action.
