Malawi High Commissioner to Tanzania dies: Gomile-Chidyaonga
Malawi High Commissioner to Tanzania, Flossy Gomile-Chidyaonga has died, Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed to Nyasa Times.
“It is with deep regret that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation informs the general public of the passing on of High Commissioner Flossie Gomile Chidyaonga in Dar-es-Salaam this afternoon, after a short illness,” spokesman for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Quent Kalichero said in a statement.
“Since 2006, Mrs. Gomile-Chidyaonga served as Deputy High Commissioner at Malawi High Commission in London, before being appointed as Malawi High Commissioner to the United Republic of Tanzania in September, 2011.”
The statement said funeral arrangements “will be communicated in due course.”
Gomile-Chidyaonga was the Deputy High Commissioner of Malawi to Britain before moving to Tanzania when she was involved in a diplomatic spat between Malawi and the United Kingdom in 2011 due to a leaked diplomatic cable that had president late Bingu wa Mutharika expelled the British envoy. Chidyaonga was sent packing from London in a tit-for-tat action.
