Malawi hockey team lose to Zambia at Africa Federation President’s Cup

Malawi national hockey team failed to replicate their winning 3-1 start to hosts Tanzania after succumbing to Zambia by the same margin in the Africa Hockey International President’s Cup in their second game.

However, Malawi will also face the same Zambia team to determine the champion of the inaugural tournament after Tanzania edged out Zambia by 1-0.

Malawi team started the Africa Federation President’s Cup with a 3-1 victory over hosts Tanzania on Tuesday.

Malawi national team coach Geof Biya applauded the team after putting up a spirited performance to overcome the hosts who enjoyed massive homestead fans.

“I would like to commend the players for being committed and focused because they played in an environment which was hostile as they were playing at home,” Biya said.

Malawi was once a powerhouse of hockey but the government directive that all national team players should be Malawian passports holders.
