Malawi leader denies firing Msaka as Chief Secretary

President Joyce Banda has denied reports indicating that she has fired Chief Secretary in the Office of President and Cabinet (OPC), Bright Msaka.

The social media, normally littered with rumours, has been awash with reports that Msaka has been dismissed.

The matter was also discussed in Malawi journalists’ internet discussion forum.

But President Banda through her Press Secretary, Steve Nhlane, denied the rumours, saying Msaka- is still in-charge of OPC.

Msaka: Not fired

“State House would like to dismiss reports circulating on social media networks that the Chief Secretary to the Government Mr. Bright Msaka, SC, has been fired as false,” Nhlane said.

Commenting on the rumours Presidential Press Secretary said:  “The reports are a total fabrication and those circulating them have their own hidden agendas for doing so. This must be the work of some mischievous people.”

When Nyasa Times emailed Msaka to ask him on the rumours, he replied: “You are sadly misinformed Sir.”

He said such information could not be credible coming from social media and discussion forums.

“And information like that would not come from that source,” he added.
