Malawi media giant Times Group appoints new Editor-in-Chief
Malawi media giant Times Group has appointed former Nation Publications Limited editor George Kasakula as Editor-in-Chief.
Kasakula crossed the floor recently and took over the Editorship of Times Group flagship newspaper Malawi News apart from helping at the newly launched Times TV.
But Times Group CEO Leonard Chikadya told an internal conference of the media company at Mount Soche that they have appointed Kasakula as new Editor-In-Chief of Times Group which also publishes The Daily Times and Sunday Times.
He will take up his new role to lead the continuing transformation of the media giant spearheded by Chikadya into a multi-platform news and information business.
Kasakula replaces Brian Ligomeka who was Managing Editor and has been given a role of Senior Editor for the Daily Times.
The position of Managing Editor has been abolished and replaced with Editor-In-Chief.
Kasakula has 14 years of experience in the media and holds an MA degree in International Journalism and Communication from Leeds University in the UK apart from a BA degree from Chancellor College.
Chikadya, who is credited for the impressive growth of Times Group, told workers that the company was delighted to hire an editorial heavyweight Kasakula to the key position.
He will bring to the role an impressive combination of editorial judgement and leadership qualities.
Times Group also hired former Nation Editor Gracian Tukula .
Reports from the group say serious radio plans are on the cards.
The former president the late Kamuzu Banda’s empire also runs a courier company Times Courier and a book publishing company Dzuka Publishing.

Brian the terrorist in the newsroom, very lazy, plagiarist and likes getting credit on other people’s sweat. Good riddance.
A Kasakula sharpen Malawi into green pasture not those who kept cowardness .
Congratulations ppo! Many of Kamuzu’s achievements still visible and benefiting Malawians todate!Ask those who acquired academic and technical skills from Kamuzu academy and MYP respectively.Osati ma Cashgate tikuwawona makonowa;turning Malawi from a God-fearing into a donor-fearing nation.Shame.
Olhomwe okavina soopa, ndi mwikho koma ochewa okombera mfiti mmanja, ndigule.
So Brian has been demoted? Was he at the press briefing? A kasakula imeneyo ndi BNL ask Vales Machila, he came to replace Ligomeka and was fired without explanation. And Brian was brought back as editor for Sunay Times. As u celebrate be careful, Brian is not out of the game, he will become general manager for BNL
George you had this vision before you joined. Well congratulations boss.
Brian has more than professional problem- He needs to go even away from the Times- He was behind the firing of so many professionals as he always feel threatened by learned people- Chikadya this is a good move, this chap Madalitso Mussa give him a good position there -he is a potential to Malawi journalism so too with Charles Mpaka anyamatawa apatseni maudindo before you lose them
Congratulations to you George
