Malawi MPs triumph over Zambian counterparts in social football, netball
Malawi Parliamentarians on Saturday, March 02, 2013 showed supremacy over visiting legislatures from neighbouring Zambia, beating the visitors in social football and netball games played at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
In football, the Malawi MPs won 3-2 with the goals coming from Billy Kaunda, Vasco Chimbalu and David Kaweche.
The Malawi side prides itself of bustling midfielder, Speaker Henry Chimunthu-Banda, who is influential in the team’success.
Leader of Opposition John Tembo and DPP’s presidential aspirant Peter Mutharika were as usual missing on the team’s line up.
The hosts also proved too good for their guests in netball, thrashing them 13-5.
Some of the stars that featured for the Malawi team were former Information Minister Patricia ‘Akweni’ Kaliati, Labour Minister Eunice Makangala and Grace Obama.
At the time of posting, chess games were still in progress at Parliament buildings in City Centre. The Malawi team had Chess Association of Malawi president and Chitipa East MP Kezzie Msukwa on board one with Jerome Waluza and Robin Lowe occupying the other two boards.
When the two Parliaments met in Chipata last year, Malawi triumphed in football and chess but lost in netball.
