Malawi new Marie’s hot sauce on consumer demand

Newly launched Marie’s hot Sauce in Shoprite and other supermarkets has attracted a growing consumer demand locally and also on international market.

The hot sauce is made from local “Kambuzi” peppers and made by Marie Chikuni first born daughter to legendary broadcaster Lucius Chikuni.

Marie’s hot sauce in Shoprite is selling fast so much so that chain supermarket have had to increase its order for the hot sauce by nearly 200 percent in just two months.marie's hot sauce

Chikuni started making the hot sauce about 12 years ago as part of one of her favourite pastimes in her Chinyonga home for friends and family.

“I run other businesses but I love cooking and I guess at some point I realised that I just had to produce more because the demand for it was so high.

“So over the years I began sending it to friends in the United States and UK. In the USA it is especially popular in the Malawian and some African communities,” she said.

The future plans for now are to take the hot sauce to another level.

“My dream is that it will eventually be a household name/brand and put Malawi on the global map,” she said.

The hots auce will soon be available in stores in  South Africa and Zambia and customers will soon be able to make online purchases.

One of the consumers of the Marie’s hot sauce said it appeals as a versatile chilli sauce  that can add a kick to almost anything, including chicken, steak and even fish.
