Mystery kidnapping rocks Blantyre as auditor vanishes near Mount Pleasant

A Malawian auditor has been kidnapped in a chilling daylight abduction near Mount Pleasant in Blantyre — leaving her family and employers scrambling for information as police launch a search.

Nusrat Osman Jiwa was bundled into a grey/silver Nissan Dualis, registration number 6956, according to her husband Nazil Osman, who broke the news in a phone call today.

“I don’t know where she is”: Speaking of his anguish, Osman said he has no idea who has taken his wife — or why. “I don’t know where she is or how she is, my wife is an auditor and I have no issues with anyone,” he said.

Nusrat works as an auditor at Audit Consult Limited, based at Keza Office Park in Chichiri, Blantyre. Her employers have confirmed the abduction and issued an urgent public appeal, calling on anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact police immediately.

The motive behind the kidnapping remains a mystery, with no group or individual having come forward to claim responsibility. Police are said to be investigating.

Malawi Police have confirmed the kidnapping of a British national in Blantyre, offering a K30 million reward for information leading to her rescue and the arrest of her captors.

The reward: Police are offering MK30,000,000 (thirty million Malawi Kwacha) to anyone who provides credible information directly leading to Osman’s rescue and the arrest, prosecution and conviction of those responsible.

Confirming the incident, Senior Superintendent Gladys Chiwaula, Service Public Relations Officer, said all information provided to police would be treated with strict confidentiality.

She appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could compromise the ongoing investigation.

The development comes after Osman’s husband, Nazil Osman, earlier told this publication he had no idea who had taken his wife or why.

“My wife is an auditor and I have no issues with anyone,” he said. Osman works with Audit Consult Limited, which operates from Keza Office Park in Chichiri, Blantyre.

Police have not yet disclosed a motive for the abduction, and no group has come forward to claim responsibility. Investigations are ongoing.
