Malawi nose dives on gender based violence -UNDP report
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has placed Malawi on 170th position out of 187 countries in dealing decisively with gender based violence despite huge sums of money injected in the programme to fight the vice.
The 2015 UNDP report means that Malawi has to do more to deal with gender based as the report shockingly shows that 46 per cent of women said they experienced at least one sexual assault in their lives.
Defilement and child labour still remains critical components of gender based violence and the report says there was need to put much effort in the fight against early pregnancies and early school drop outs in schools.
Some organisations, like Ujama Pamodzi have joined hands with other stakeholders to fight gender based violence as they are mow teaching girls how to counter attacks sexual assault perpetrators, at the same time the organisation is teaching boys how to remain a virgin until they are grown ups and married.
