Speaking before departure at Chileka in Blantyre, Banda flanked by her Coach George Luhanga and the country’s Paralympic body President James Chiutsi said Malawians should expect nothing less than gold medal from Brazil.

“I can assure Malawians that I am fully prepared to die for my country. It is an honor for me to represent a population of over 15 million people in Brazil . People back home should just pray for me because I know it won’t be easy to a chieve the feat,” said Banda who represented Malawi recently in Zimbabwe at another Paralympic tournament.

Echoing her sentiments, Luhanga said Banda is prepared to break her recent record in Brazil.

“Taonere has been in camp for the past 2 months preparing for this trip. During one of our training sessions, she managed to beat her Zimbabwe record where she won bronze during a 1,500 metre race. I have enough confidence that she will achieve that feat in Brazil,” said Luhanga.

The Salima  based 20 year-old athlete is expected to compete on 10 September in a 1,500 metres race for the visually impared athlete. She is expected back home on 21 September.
