Malawi plague threat: Covid-19 cases spike again

Covid-19, the strands of coronavirus pandemic case in Malawi are slowly but alarmingly going up with new figures hitting 358.

Phuka: Local Covid-19 cases increase

The Presidential Task force on covid-19 co-chairperson has since called for adherence to Isolation rules.

A statement from the taskforce says Malawi has registered 22 new-Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 358.

The country has registered four deaths, 42 recoveries and 312 active cases.

Co-chairperson of the Presidential Task force on Covid-19 Dr. John Phuka says 11 of the new cases were identified among Malawians returning from South Africa.

“Eight were confirmed in Blantyre of which six are health care workers while one is a contact of a confirmed case.

“Two are from Lilongwe (one with travel history to South Africa and one still under investigation).

“The other case has been identified in Ntcheu and recently returned from South Africa,” reads part of the statement.

The statement further calls on Malawians in and outside the country to take precautionary measures aimed at reducing the spread of Covid-19.

“Let me take this opportunity to advise Malawians abroad to observe measures aimed at preventing transmission of SARS-COV 2, the cause of Covid-19.

“Lastly, let me remind those that are Covid-19 positive to strictly adhere to the isolation rules until they are cleared to be virus-free by medical personnel,” he says.

Some people are expressing concern over government decision to open learning institutions amid growing cases of the virus pandemic.

On March 20, President Peter Mutharika declared coronavirus a national disaster in Malawi and on April 2, the country registered its first three cases.

I am just wondering why hrdc is quite even when politicians are converging a lot of people in their whistle stops. I thought tonse alliance claims to be a law abiding alliance . An alliance which will be a servant of people who will put them in power.

Both HRDC and TONSE ALLIANCE know pretty well that Covid 19 in Malawi is just a DPP conspiracy and speaking anything of its measures is as aiding the DPP meet its targets.

A Dr. Phuka, you are still young, these thugs are putting your bright career under threat. When another government comes you will be trimed to size. Do not love quick money. You will suffer the rest of your life

DPP should not politicize this pandemic by importing cases. You shouldn’t have repatriated citizen from South Africa with the aim of keeping your government in power

Your recovery figure is a concern. It takes only 14 days to recover but you have been reporting same 42 for the past 2 months. By now you should have close to 150 recoveries.

India and China closed there borders to all returning citizens traveling from Foreign Hot Spots. DPP Government chose to import cases from South Africa without first being tested. Yet those returning have expressed they were first tested Negative in South Africa prior to boarding the buses.
Pakistan Supreme Courts over ruled the Government Lock Down saying the lockdown was doing more harm and killing more people than the virus.
Zimbabwe refuses to count imported cases as infections within their country if a infection originated elsewhere.

I think you don’t know what to do as a committee, you only think your job is to announce new cases pamene you are supposed to be on the ground assisting and providing for those affected.
