Malawi Police arrest jealous man for setting Church of Christ ablaze: Accuses Pastor of ‘sleeping’ with wife

Malawi Police in Kasungu have arrested Benjamin Kabanga 27, for allegedly setting ablaze a church.

Kabanga set ablaze a Church of Christ prayer house after suspecting that the pastor of the church was having a love affair with his wife.

According to Kasungu police public relations officer, Edina Mzingwitsa, the incident happened on May 23 when Kabanga had a quarrel with his wife to the extent of assaulting her.

“It is alleged that the pastor (name withheld) had a sexual affair with the suspect’s wife and on the day of the quarrel, the wife fled to the pastor’s house where she slept. Upon seeing this, Kabanga rushed to the church and set it on fire,” said Mzingwitsa.

Kabanga has been charged with arson and will appear before court soon.

He comes from Matako village, Traditional Authority (TA) Chitanthamapiri in Kasungu district.
